Wal-Mart Gunnys

Wal-Mart Decides to add new gun sale restrictions to their stores at the applause from a group of Mayors Against Illegal Guns:

Wow. Walmart. What an amazing thing. Who knew you had it in you. I thought you were an evil corporation who uses PR spin to advance your agenda of the perfect business platform. Grow and destroy. In Today's New York Sun, Mayor Bloomberg says
Wal-Mart clearly shares our goals, and their commitment to public safety really is commendable,” Mr. Bloomberg said at the outset of the third annual summit of the Mayors Against Illegal Guns coalition he formed in 2006.
Wal-Mart, its great to have the mayor on your side, but there’s these groups in NYC called Unions and they don’t bend over too easily. The whole point of this gun nonsense is to establish enough support as a responsible corporate citizen, to gain entry into the NYC market and have a chance of jumping onto 20 million customers. Sweet. Yea. Super. But a release from the Local UFCW 1500 said different.
“We are eager to meet with the Mayor on this issue and to begin a dialogue so that the Mayor may become more informed on the topic before making the declaration that Wal-mart is a responsible company,” (Director of Special Projects)Purcell concluded.
Well, that sounds all nice mashed potato with gravy and a sliver of butter. But, Bloomberg goes silly.
Mr. Bloomberg suggested Wal-Mart was more than welcome. “Companies that understand that they have an obligation to the people that they sell to and the communities that they exist in are the kind of companies that we want in New York City,” he said, “and I think every city should want.”
Every City. Every Mayor at the Coalition heard this. Well if NYC is doing it we should too. Corporate Responsibility. I wonder how much business they’ll lose with all these restrictions? I bet not as much as they’ll gain by having 1 store in Manhattan. I’m no CPA, but that sounds about right.
