FITNA. A movie. About Islam. By a Dutchman. Will not be shown. Why? Haven't a clue, but those in the Islam world are protesting hard against it, even mentioning it will hurt diplomatic relations with countries such as Iran. What could be so horrible in this movie, that could cause those in the Islam world to be so angry. Could it all be lies? Or could it contain truths? That's the issue. Without the movie being shown what could we gather from it or throw away from it. I don't understand this fear of art, but it does bring me back to the governments in the ME, the removal of the free press, of the free art, of the free opinion. The governments in the ME are acting as if this movie will change the world. Acting like those who murdered priest because of Dutch cartoons. The Western World was built on the idea of freedom of the mind. It wasn't always like this. Though through Individual thought came Prosperity. It was because those who have it are able to Choose what they want to do. Who they want to be. Who they want to be with it. What they want to believe. Perhaps this isn't understood in the ME. Just because I see a movie about Islam, doesn't mean I believe it as the truth. I take from it what I want to take from it. Because in my way of my life, my mind is free and able to choose what truth is.

Wright stated: "We bombed Hiroshima, we bombed Nagasaki, and we nuked far more than the thousands in New York and the Pentagon, and we never batted an eye...and now we are indignant, because the stuff we have done overseas is now brought back into our own front yards. America's chickens are coming home to roost."
Seriously, one thing that gets me was when he talked about our terrorism caused 9/11. It is very true. It was our actions that caused it. The Hijackers didn't just get into a plane and said hey lets blow this up. They were angry. They'll never forget the removal of their land for Israel or the removal of a democratically elected government in Iran for one of Tyranny. How many people know that though? The Clinton's Campaign is riding on the famous American action of inaction. Of thoughtlessness instead of thought. To the Clinton Campaign, her best shot at winning is this for all the voters:
Ignorance is Bliss.

Poison in the water

So The PPP has decided to elect someone to run for Prime Minister. Apparently, I must be out of the loop, because I thought ruthless Dictators hate to give up power, nevermind power to a political group with the words "People's Party" in it. Hmm, well what can I say the world is changing, but not so much overnight. You see the last time there was going to be an election the person running, Mrs. Corrupt-as-a-wall-street-banker Bhutto had some issues. You see she was Prime Minister twice before from 1988 to 1990, and from 1993 to 1996. Though, she was removed from office twice for corruption. So why put her in charge again. Mr. Mushareff didn't want this either. So in December she wasn't just shot, she was shot and blown up.Pretty bad way to go out, and seriously it shows what people thought of her. Having that same someone add more poison to the water, doesnt purify it. Now one of her stock is running again, and if Mushareff has his way, they won't make it to election. A false democracy in action. One where you can vote, but one where those vying for office never make it to the ballot. What an interesting system.

Explosions ignited the hate

It's Raining
"WND previously reported sovereign wealth funds in six Persian Gulf countries, including Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar, have now amassed $1.7 trillion, positioning them for attempts to control major banks and securities firms in the U.S"
I see it this way. If countries who don't like us control our money, than wouldn't we be a slave to them if shit hit the fan. Yes. Absolutely Yes. Many countries don't allow other governments to directly meddle in the money of that country, how come we haven't done that yet? How come we still allow foreign governments to control these matters? We're like the 12 year old kid waiting for his dad to pick him up from baseball practice while its pouring and decides to get in the car with a stranger. You don't know whats going to happen, but it's not going to end up well. I mean you did get out of the rain, but lifetime trauma wasn't worth it.

Big Red- The New Version

China,
What's going on buddy? Hows the kids? I mean kid? I know you can only have one.I am sorry to tell you this. But you need to relax. Killing monks is so not a good PR move. Maybe you're using Britney's guy, but you need to switch. You see to us crazy Westerners, killing holy men is not cool. I still don't understand why you want Tibet so bad, I mean usually countries go to war and destroy people because they are either terrorising the country or they are full of resources you want to exploit or rape them of. But Tibet>? It's a bunch of mountains. It won't change day or night for you either way. I know you are busy building way cool cities and skylines, but try this out, it's going to seem strange. Give Tibet to Tibet. Just do it. You'll look like a hero and right before the Olympics, that would be super. Now Taiwan, that's your call dude, but I think you should relax, after all you should have followed Kai-Shek all the way there, but you didn't. So, it's kind of like a dead duck. I'd just be cool about it though. Anyway, you have to get back to showing the world that your modern and mature, when in fact you're still just a child throwing rocks at holy men.

Qualifications and Mountain Biking

I have been doing a search of monster.com and careerbuilder.com and I find it hard to find a position for leading a country. I mean it is simply not listed. I guess it's one of those jobs where you have to know someone.bullshit. With this coming election, the question is raised, who has the most experience to run the country. Experience in being the President.......it just strikes me as something odd. I mean the first president George Washington, he didn't have any experience. In fact, the whole government itself was an experiment in motion. The only person who can have experience running the country, is someone who has ran the country before, i believe the word is incumbent. No one else can have that experience other than them.
Mr. Bush didn't have experience running the United States either. Either did Clinton. Either did Bush 1. Either did Reagan. So lets get back to reality.
The qualifications to be President Are:
Article Two of the Constitution sets the principal qualifications to be eligible for election as President. A Presidential candidate must:
Be a natural-born citizen of the United States
Be at least thirty-five years old
Have been resident in the United States for at least fourteen years
So all those running have the ability to be President. It is up to us to decide who's going to work for our interest. And not be on Vacation so Much. It's a really important job.
Palestine 3.0

So over and over again, they have peace treaties, yet from these nothing occurs other than a couple months with no suicide bombings. Well, if their ideas are as good as mine, let me take a shot at it. Israel and Palestine will never cooperate with each other. Hamas runs the Gaza Strip. Take the Gaza strip and make it a dependent of Egypt until they can get their act together. Have the West Bank become part of Jordan. Have the Golan Heights become part of Syria. I know insane right. With the money currently going to the PLO, have it separated percentage wise based on population. Each Palestinian Dependent will have a local government, but the central government with its laws and taxation be monitored by those nations that are annexed these lands. The Palestinians will have their own police force, fire force, and other government establishments, but also have each countries forces in their monitored territory. When all 3 districts of Palestine can get their act together, in terms of a governing and economics, they can become their own countries. When all 3 reach this level, Israel, in a show of good spirit will give a mile wide piece of land from Gaza to the West Bank and the West Bank to the Golan Heights. Thus, a true connected Palestinian State. With that a road without road-blocks connecting Africa to Asia. Finally, the answer to the million dollar question.

Plane over Capitol prompts second Orange alert

A small airplane flew into restricted airspace over the Capitol Wednesday, prompting the second Code Orange alert in the last week.
The plane was safely redirected and later landed in Leesburg, Va. Police are investigating the issue, according to U.S. Capitol Police spokeswoman Sgt. Kimberly Schneider.
Though Capitol Police said they did not call an official evacuation, hundreds of people streamed out of the Senate-side exits, were directed by Capitol police to Russell Park and held there until the officers determined the situation was safe. People were then let back inside.
Last week Rep. James Clyburn (D-S.C.) was escorted out of the Capitol after air traffic controllers lost contact with an airplane that flew into restricted space. Neither House nor Senate sessions were disrupted. Actors Tom Hanks and Paul Giamatti, who were in Statuary Hall for an HBO reception, stayed put as well.
Great. Restricted Airspace. Government. Actors. Why disrupt an HBO reception. I guess if it turned out everyone was killed this story could be alot different and fingers would be pointed in all directions. Government, a couple years ago some planes killed some people. Taking stupid chances might disturb a meal or meeting, but is losing your life really worth it?

The Hush-Hush Topic

The question that eeks through my mind every time I read about a Muslim woman being killed in an Honor Killing, is when are groups like NOW going to condemn it. NOW, The National Organization of Women should have it on their front page. They should have it in huge font about the outcry over the treatment of these women. Where is it? Not there. It's sort of the same thing everyone around the world did when Hitler was murdering the Jews. Turning a blind eye. Not only am I angry at NOW, I am upset our government does not consider this "inhumane treatment" and make a statement about it.
I have nothing wrong with different religions co-existing and applaude our ability that it has been working, it's just stuff like female circumcision, a knife in the head for being seen with another man, and how a woman who has been brutally gang-raped is found to be the guilty party and is sentenced to 60 lashes. How come no one says anything? How come people just treat it as the norm, or say it's a different culture. Well the Nazi's had a different cultural viewpoint too. Though 10 million innocent people had to die horrible deaths in shower rooms pumped with poison gas and being cooked to death. It's time we stop choosing to hide from these realities in the world and say what we feel is wrong. Better yet, do something about it. Cur Non?

To Mr. Spitzer
Hey Johnny Boy:
Quick question. What were you thinking? 5,500 dollars an hour. What the hell is wrong with you? I have this friend that charges so much less like 200 an hour. I mean think about it. With 5,300 dollars remaining you could do alot of stuff. Say take your kids on a vacation, take your wife to a fancy restaurant. And still have alot of money leftover. I guess its true. It's always the moral crusaders who do the most immoral things. Here's one of my favorites:
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado (CNN) -- The Rev. Ted Haggard agreed Saturday to resign as leader of the megachurch he started in his basement more than 20 years ago after its independent investigative board said he was guilty of "sexually immoral conduct."
On Friday, Haggard admitted he had received a massage from a Denver man who claimed the prominent pastor had paid him for sex over three years. Haggard also admitted he had bought methamphetamine.
Haggard, in an interview with CNN affiliate KUSA, denied having sex with Mike Jones* and said he did not use the drug and threw it away. -END
http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/11/03/haggard.allegations/index.html
My favorite part is where he said he threw the drugs away. Yes, I heard about it, you know go out of your way to buy an addictive-potentially-jail-sentenced-connective-substance just to throw it away. Happens all the time.

Hillary
Friday, March 7th, 2008 Hillary Clinton, Fratricidal Maniac ...by Jonathan Chait
The New Republic
The morning after Tuesday's primaries, Hillary Clinton's campaign released a memo titled "The Path to the Presidency." I eagerly dug into the paper, figuring it would explain how Clinton would obtain the Democratic nomination despite an enormous deficit in delegates. Instead, the memo offered a series of arguments as to why Clinton should run against John McCain - i.e., "Hillary is seen as the one who can get the job done" - but nothing about how she actually could. Is she planning a third-party run? Does she think Obama is going to die? The memo does not say.
The reason it doesn't say is that Clinton's path to the nomination is pretty repulsive. She isn't going to win at the polls. Barack Obama has a lead of 144 pledged delegates. That may not sound like a lot in a 4,000-delegate race, but it is. Clinton's Ohio win reduced that total by only nine. She would need 15 more Ohios to pull even with Obama. She isn't going to do much to dent, let alone eliminate, his lead.
That means, as we all have grown tired of hearing, that she would need to win with superdelegates. But, with most superdelegates already committed, Clinton would need to capture the remaining ones by a margin of better than two to one. The plan may also involve trying to seat the Michigan and Florida delegations, after having explicitly agreed that the results would not count toward delegate totals. Oh, and her campaign has periodically hinted that some of Obama's elected delegates might break off and support her. I don't think she'd be in a position to defeat Hitler's dog in November, let alone a popular war hero.
Imagine his opponent decided to spend seven weeks pounding home the theme that Bush had a dangerous plan to privatize Social Security. Would this have improved Bush's chances of defeating the Democrats? Would his party have stood for it?
To Hillary:
It's amazing when we are thinking about what's going on now. Simply, The Democrats will kill themselves before November. Hillary, youre right. This was suppose to be easy. No way a First Term Senator could beat you, but guess what it happened. Now get out of the race and let's get down to business. It's not because you are a woman, it's because no one likes you and you can't change that about people. Cur non?

Mexico is not a subsidiary of the US
A wall should go up on the US-Mexican Border. You see Mexico is not a subsidiary of the US, but an actual country. When governments of foreign countries are accusing the US of damaging human rights, where's the logic. The Argument is that Mexicans need to come to the US to work. I fully agree that Mexicans provide an excellent source of labor to the bourgeoisie, but what it does to the American worker, is lower the wages across the board. Simple economics. An influx of people who will work for cheap, longer hours, no healthcare and will do anything is simply a better machine for production. I always hear they do the jobs Americans won't do. Really I didn't know that before 1960 America was a barren wasteland(see graphic below). After 1865, someone somewhere must have been doing the jobs labeled as undesirable. It's not just the people who come here to work, it's those that deal in Narcotics. You see Cocaine does not grow well in North Dakota. It grows well in South America, especially in the land of our impressive honest ally( cough, cough Pakistan) Columbia. How does it get to us. An open border or as I like to call it TSTNFBPCAS.

The truth is the complexity of the system is so overwhelming that if they tried to do the right thing and come here legally it could take years and be ridiculously costly. All these special Visas don't do anything but derail the actual point of what needs to happen: Reform.
During the 1800's, when a huge amount of immigrants came here, a system was not set up like it is now. It was you get on a line, wait a while, do a medical, perhaps change your last name and you get a Yes or No. Simplicity does have its positives. Yes, we are all part of this. We are all from families that were immigrants. Even the Natives, had to apply to be part of the country. It wasn't about immigrating to a continent, it was immigrating for a dream. Those that cross the border do it everyday, and there must be a way for them to come here and continue the dream.
A wall needs to go up so we can take a deep breath and find a solution to a problem that is not going to go away, and will only continue to bite at the lips of US.

Clintons push a Hillary/Obama ticket

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Hillary and Bill Clinton are again teaming up on Barack Obama -- this time saying the first-term U.S. lawmaker, whom they have derided as inexperienced, would be a strong running mate on a Democratic presidential ticket headed by the former first lady.
In talking up a joint ticket, the Clintons may be seeking the upper hand, attempting to put her in consideration for the top of the ticket when she so far has failed to win the votes necessary to assure that she would face Republican presidential candidate John McCain in the November election.
The maneuver may also be aimed at countering an image in voters' minds of Obama as presidential material and at helping restore an aura of inevitability as the party's nominee that Clinton had early in the campaign but lost.
"The Clintons are in a difficult position," said Dennis Goldford, a political science professor at Drake University in Iowa, who has tracked the presidential race.
"If she wins the Democratic presidential nomination, she would need Obama's supporters. But she needs to be careful. If this talk of him on the ticket is seen as a cynical maneuver, it could backfire and hurt her," Goldford said.
Former Senate Democratic leader Tom Daschle of South Dakota, an Obama backer, mocked the idea.
"It may be the first time in history that the person who is running number two would offer the person running number one the number two position," Daschle told "Meet the Press."
Obama leads Clinton, a fellow Democratic senator, in a bruising race for their party's presidential nomination, but neither is likely to reach the 2,025 delegates needed to become the nominee in the remaining state-by-state contests.
As Democratic leaders worry about the damage that could be done if neither has a clear lead by the August nominating convention, the party is also trying to decide what to do about election results from Michigan and Florida that do not count because of a dispute over when they were held.
The Clintons have charged that Obama, a charismatic lawmaker from Illinois, lacks the experience to handle an international crisis as president.
But since Clinton, a two-term senator from New York, won primary elections in Ohio and Texas, she and her husband, former President Bill Clinton, have touted Obama as a possible running mate.
When asked about the possibility last week, Obama said he was focused on winning the nomination. "I think it is very premature to start talking about a joint ticket," Obama said.
'UNSTOPPABLE FORCE'?
Sen. John Kerry, a Massachusetts Democrat who has endorsed Obama, derided the suggestion. "The first threshold question about a vice president is, are you prepared to be president?" Kerry told CBS's "Face the Nation" on Sunday.
"So on the one end, they are saying he's not prepared to be president. On the other hand, they're saying maybe he ought to be vice president," Kerry said.
Campaigning on Saturday, in Mississippi, the former president was quoted as saying his wife and Obama would be a dynamic duo, "an almost unstoppable force."
The candidate implied last week she and Obama may end up on the same ticket, with her on top.
Pennsylvania Gov. Edward Rendell, a Democratic who has sought to rally support for Clinton in his state's April 22 primary, backed the idea of Clinton and Obama teaming up. "It would be a great ticket," Rendell told NBC's "Meet the Press."

Is she on crack? Since when can someone losing asking someone who's winning to take a 2nd place position. She's not on crack though. Shes very good with strategy Clinton Style. That is manipulation with a scent of intimidation. You see the party is quite divided now and the Dem's are wondering if this will ruin their chances in November. So Hillary, she thinks will come out as a uniter and will push that. Push as well that Obama is trying to tear the party apart and he cares more about himself than the fruitful control of the Dems in the White House. Very funny Hillary. The sad part is alot of people will fall for it. The commercials will come out. Showing Barack talking and in the background will have a bunch of Democrats with the middle of them splitting to each respective side with each word he says. That makes good TV.Maybe I should get a job with the Clinton Campaign.

US voters' views: Rob Mann
In the run-up to the most hotly contested US presidential election in years we are asking panels of BBC News website readers to share their opinions and views.
Here, voters from the key states of Texas and Ohio react to the results in Tuesday's round of crucial primaries.
Rob Mann Democrat
Barack Obama's loss in three out of four states on Tuesday seems to have slowed down the momentum of his campaign.
His loss in Texas in particular really made me think that the invincible man might have weaknesses after all, particularly when it comes to substance.
People seem to now be questioning whether he is more than just a great speaker who can woo any crowd.
Having been to his rally the other night in Houston, I must say that I saw a lot of JFK in his delivery.
The challenge for him now is to prove to people there is more to him as a candidate.
On the positive side, at least it wasn't a night of landslide victories for Mrs Clinton.
Barack still has the delegate count and the lead in the popular vote in the polls.
Mrs Clinton really needs to slow down with her negative campaigning. She will not, though. She'll continue to fight dirty.
From here on in, it's going to be a hard fight for Barack.
He must remember to rise above the nonsense and continue to establish a base of voters from all parties and backgrounds.

We're in some trouble.

WEST PALM BEACH, Florida (Reuters) - President George W. Bush may have given presumptive Republican presidential nominee John McCain the royal treatment at the White House on Wednesday, but the two men did not exactly have a meal fit for a king.
McCain, an Arizona senator, picked up the president's endorsement for his candidacy while dining on something simple: a hot dog.
"He said he was having a hot dog, so I had a hot dog," McCain, referring to Bush, told reporters on his campaign plane during a flight to Florida.
So does a hot dog taste any different when it's prepared in the White House?
"It tasted pretty much the same to me," McCain said.
Bush formally endorsed his former rival after the 71-year-old locked up their party's presidential nomination on Tuesday night.
The two men discussed foreign affairs, the war in Iraq, and the process of selecting a vice president during lunch, McCain said.
Bush welcomed McCain and his wife, Cindy, in a formal entrance and held a joint news conference with his would-be-successor in the famous Rose Garden after their meal.

I guess with our National Debt at $9,399,982,491,053.41, even the White House has to cut back.
By the way, the Federal Government is responsible for $4,092,612,323,694.60 of that.
Colonialism without the paperwork

Dear Mr. Bush:
I would like to know something. Is it true that we never found WMD's in Iraq and to try to cover up your mistake, which cost the lives of many Americans as well as Iraqis, you tried to change it to a war to embrace freedom? Because I didn't know you could force Democracy on a country. I thought Democracy was about choice. It simply has to mature. It has to become by itself. Forcing on a country that never had a taste of it before, is like making someone who never drank in their life chug a bottle of vodka. They are going to puke all over the place. Well look what happened. It's a disaster.
Well if our method was about making people free we should invade Haiti. I mean they are our closer neighbor and.........oh I remember. They don't have any resources. You know simply Oil or anything. It is not our interest to free people, but to free their resources for US.
The first Rule of Business-Government Capitalism:
Take from those who are unable to distinguish or unable to stop you from getting what they have, and let those who have nothing rot.
How can we tell the world we care about them when we constantly infuse deceit. Some people in America starve in the streets. When the government and business get together, the result is always in the interest of business and not the common good, which was the basis for government.

A Mini-Biography of George W.

George was born to very grateful parents. Though, he was not the favorite. He never was the 1st to do anything and he became a very jealous boy. One day George was in the bathroom reading the SEARS Catalog and decided to look at the Men's undergarment section. Little did George know this would have a huge impact on his life. Though, embarassed to tell the world, he was quite confused as why the pictures of men in the magazine excited him. He did what any man who is sexually confused does: He became a male cheerleader.
Though, when George was in college, he felt even more confused as he tried to bottle up his emotions. A friend cameby named SnowFlake and offered George some Blow. George did a line and another. He never felt so good in his life. He couldn't wait to put on his cheer outfit and root for the team. Go! Go! Go!
Stuff happened....
Then some more happened......
Then he became Cheney's bitch and fucked up our standing in the world.
See why it's important to accept people for who they are, if the world was more tolerant of people's identity choices, we would be much better off. I bet you didn't see that coming. Cur Non?
Who are you afraid of?
ALF, with his out of the world antics, could serious bring some Columbus juice to his new world.
The IRA. They'll kill you. Seriously.
The Oompa Loompas. A minority with no representation feels repressed. Repressed people do crazy things. Say kill you and put lyrics to it.
Hamas. Sounds like a Jewish delicacy, but don't mention Judaism around them.
Kitten on the run. What do you think he's running from? Yea, he just murdered a whole family and the Police are on his ass.Socialized Medicine and You

Where would you like to be treated for an open heart surgery quadruple bypass?
Let's chat for a moment. Well you can read, and I'll have this written already. So I guess it's just a one way conversation. There is many among us who want government healthcare. Canada, Japan, Britain and almost every other wealthy nation has it. The issue before us is this:
What do we do about the Establishment of Healthcare that has been built in the last 100 years? Do we simply remover the Laissez-Faire attitude with concerns about how much a medicine cost or how much a Doctor makes? What I am hearing is alot about what people are going to do but not much about how they are going to do it. The best minds in medicine come to the US for many reasons. I'm sure the top 2 contains the word "compensation". Nowhere else in the world can you make as much being a Doctor as you can in the US. A Doctor doesn't leave Pakistan for the hell of it,(pun intented) he leaves because if he comes to the US, he can provide a better life for his family and be better off. So again, how are they going to take the healthcare industry and socialize it? Do you tell Doctors you can only make half of what you are making now? Do you tell Phrama companies what their drugs will cost? You tell a great doctor he can only make so much, he might follow his passion of art, and leave his career. Thus. hurting you and me. The Phrama companies will no longer have the means to invest in Research and Development and move us back. We will no longer be on the cutting edge of medicine(we're not in certain ways since we refuse to mingle in stem cells research beyond the surface)
Metaphor:
You teach your dog if he gives you his paw in your hand you will give him a treat. You keep asking for him to give you his paw. Now you take away the treat. Why would the dog keep doing it? Chances are he wouldn't.
Now why would we mess with a system that has worked, and when most of our diseases are of our own demon. Personal Responsibility begins with I. Cur Non?
Rep. King: al-Qaida would celebrate Obama Victory
Hmmmm....Coincidence?Rep. King: al-Qaida would celebrate Obama victory
Associated Press - March 7, 2008 11:04 PM ET
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - Iowa Congressman Steve King says terrorists would celebrate if Democratic candidate Barack Obama won the presidency.
King, a Republican, bases his prediction on Obama's pledge to pull troops out of Iraq, his Kenyan heritage and his middle name Hussein.
King, in an interview today with the Daily Reporter in Spencer, said al-Qaida would "be dancing in the streets in greater numbers than they did on September 11th."
King says terrorists would declare victory in the war on terror because Obama would pull troops out of the Middle East.
The congressman added "They'll be dancing in the streets because of his middle name, they'll be dancing in the streets because of who his father was."
The Illinois senator, born in Hawaii to a white Kansas woman and a Kenyan man, has said he is a Christian and has little connection to the Islamic religion.
Obama spokesman Tommy Vietor criticized King and others who have brought Obama's heritage into the presidential debate.
Interesting. No not really. You see how such a stupid person can get such power. Actually we all know this is not the first occurance of this happening LATELY. Rep. King, I wonder to myself when the fear factor of the Republican Administration is going to end. Using fear to control the people only goes so far, but don't forget you must have some truth for it to be long term. I am sure when JFK won the presidency people were dancing in the streets of Dublin, which I am positive some were members of the IRA. So I ask Cur Non?

Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen

Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen
Approved by the National Assembly of France, August 26, 1789
The representatives of the French people, organized as a National Assembly, believing that the ignorance, neglect, or contempt of the rights of man are the sole cause of public calamities and of the corruption of governments, have determined to set forth in a solemn declaration the natural, unalienable, and sacred rights of man, in order that this declaration, being constantly before all the members of the Social body, shall remind them continually of their rights and duties; in order that the acts of the legislative power, as well as those of the executive power, may be compared at any moment with the objects and purposes of all political institutions and may thus be more respected, and, lastly, in order that the grievances of the citizens, based hereafter upon simple and incontestable principles, shall tend to the maintenance of the constitution and redound to the happiness of all.
Therefore the National Assembly recognizes and proclaims, in the presence and under the auspices of the Supreme Being, the following rights of man and of the citizen:
Articles:
Men are born and remain free and equal in rights. Social distinctions may be founded only upon the general good.
The aim of all political association is the preservation of the natural and imprescriptible rights of man. These rights are liberty, property, security, and resistance to oppression.
The principle of all sovereignty resides essentially in the nation. No body nor individual may exercise any authority which does not proceed directly from the nation.
Liberty consists in the freedom to do everything which injures no one else; hence the exercise of the natural rights of each man has no limits except those which assure to the other members of the society the enjoyment of the same rights. These limits can only be determined by law.
Law can only prohibit such actions as are hurtful to society. Nothing may be prevented which is not forbidden by law, and no one may be forced to do anything not provided for by law.
Law is the expression of the general will. Every citizen has a right to participate personally, or through his representative, in its foundation. It must be the same for all, whether it protects or punishes. All citizens, being equal in the eyes of the law, are equally eligible to all dignities and to all public positions and occupations, according to their abilities, and without distinction except that of their virtues and talents.
No person shall be accused, arrested, or imprisoned except in the cases and according to the forms prescribed by law. Any one soliciting, transmitting, executing, or causing to be executed, any arbitrary order, shall be punished. But any citizen summoned or arrested in virtue of the law shall submit without delay, as resistance constitutes an offense.
The law shall provide for such punishments only as are strictly and obviously necessary, and no one shall suffer punishment except it be legally inflicted in virtue of a law passed and promulgated before the commission of the offense.
As all persons are held innocent until they shall have been declared guilty, if arrest shall be deemed indispensable, all harshness not essential to the securing of the prisoner's person shall be severely repressed by law.
No one shall be disquieted on account of his opinions, including his religious views, provided their manifestation does not disturb the public order established by law.
The free communication of ideas and opinions is one of the most precious of the rights of man. Every citizen may, accordingly, speak, write, and print with freedom, but shall be responsible for such abuses of this freedom as shall be defined by law.
The security of the rights of man and of the citizen requires public military forces. These forces are, therefore, established for the good of all and not for the personal advantage of those to whom they shall be intrusted.
A common contribution is essential for the maintenance of the public forces and for the cost of administration. This should be equitably distributed among all the citizens in proportion to their means.
All the citizens have a right to decide, either personally or by their representatives, as to the necessity of the public contribution; to grant this freely; to know to what uses it is put; and to fix the proportion, the mode of assessment and of collection and the duration of the taxes.
Society has the right to require of every public agent an account of his administration.
A society in which the observance of the law is not assured, nor the separation of powers defined, has no constitution at all.
Since property is an inviolable and sacred right, no one shall be deprived thereof except where public necessity, legally determined, shall clearly demand it, and then only on condition that the owner shall have been previously and equitably indemnified.
